Group: Construction ,
2003 Installation, Gallery „Kunstbank“ Timber, cardboard, PVC-film, adhesive tape, furniture belonging to the Gallery |
| 1 The behavioural patterns of seeing and being seen at exhibition openings, visitors’ movements in gallery rooms, and their dependency on the rooms’ spatial structures are the installation’s points of departure. Fragmentary and provisional constructions hammered together out of lathes and reminiscent of sales stalls or fast-food stands are arranged around a pillar. |
||
| 2 This forms the central architectural element in the room. The individual lathe structures are combined with pedestals and furnishings. Carpeting and various markings identify various systems of spatial ordering, which are superimposed upon each other like layers. Together they form a “settlement” in which an interior and an exterior can be spatially experienced. People moving within these structures are framed pictorially. They take positions in relation to the individual elements and play roles triggered by the structure of these elements: they become purchasers and sellers, speakers and listeners, observers and occupants... . |
