I took this series of photography during a visit to Tokyo and travels within Japan. They show people who are moving in urban spaces, and different forms of living. The main question I was pursuing was how the Japanese create some space for themselves, how they adapt to different places and how they change spaces time and again. The temporary use of park benches for building a little shelter, the conversion of mobile snack bars to houses by homeless people, or the swarms of umbrellas on one of the biggest crossroads in Tokyo…
I was interested in the homesteading motivation during the moment of movement.

The number of pictures varies. The pictures are arranged so that each space shown in the picture belongs to the following picture – like in a movie. The arrangement underlines the movement of my observation.
